Annual Report from Race officer Ye Hong

Look back to 2015, Shanghai Yacht Club has hosted a series of major race. In March we had the International Charity Regatta to send everyone’s love to the mountain village child. The Optimist family race in May aimed at promoting the family sailing culture in Shanghai with the theme “Sail With Your Child”. Shanghai International Op Regatta also took place in SYC in August. Young sailors who come from 12 foreign countries race with each other in Dianshan lake. One month later we had the Shanghai Citizens’League&24 Hour International Charity Regatta, attacting more than 300 sailors compete on Dianshan Lake. During the winter we will still run the 3th Benetau Keelboat Race, we already have nearly 20 teams signed up for the race. Overall, this year’s race events are very interesting and attractive to sailors both from home and abroad.

In order to fulfill the demands of more race event we add a new mode as the monthly race for both dinghies and keelboats. We start from March 2015, plan to end in November. The racing class would be Topaz, Omega, Vision, Feva and Laser, also including keelboat. We hope that monthly race could offer a platform for the club members to test their sailing skills and exchange experience to challenge with each other.

Surprisingly, many members ask me that if they could be involved in the volunteer activity, the answer is surely positive. We welcome every member come to work as one of the race committee and score recording. They have great opportunity to watch the race on the powerboat very closely and also gain much experience with the rules for our instructors would explain to them.

We think that sailing race is the best way to improve our members’ sailing skill so that we would keep running these race events and explore more attractive race formulas.
