SYCR 29er professional team attracts Shanghainese attention

With the support of Watersports Administration of National Sports Bureau、Shanghai Sports Bureau、Shanghai Watersports Center and Hong Kong Upmarine, Shanghai Yacht Club set up the 29er national sailing team. This is the first time for a domestic club to fund a competitive sports team. We hope that we could promote both the mass sport and the high level competitive sport in a certain way. This is a new record of China sailing history, Shanghai Xinmin Newspaper has published a special interview of the team.

Most of the young sailors start with no sailing experience but they train very hard. In Feb 17th 2015 they went sailing in Asian youth sailing cup in Hong Kong and got a third and fourth during the whole regatta. This is the only one 29er sailing team comes from mainland so the young sailors from Shanghai Yacht Club feel very proud of what they have achieved. In the coming December they will go Malaysia for the World Youth Sailing Championship. For the young sailors themselves they see it as a great opportunity to show what they are capable of, for the club it’s also a good time to test if this first trial of club funded sailing team could work. We all look forward to their great performance in the near future.
